Tazarotene uk is a powerful retinoid that has been shown in clinical trials to build collagen, reverse fine lines and wrinkles, photo-damage, pigmentation, hyper-pigmentation, acne and psoriasis. It is also more potent than Retin-A and has fewer side effects. It is available at Relimeds as Tazret 0.05% Gel 20g by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals.
It is available from Relimeds as a topical cream or foam and is usually applied once a day in the evening. It is important to follow the directions on your prescription label and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Keep tazarotene out of the reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from light.
Topical tazarotene, like isotretinoin and tretinoin, improves the appearance of photodamaged skin by normalizing the changes that occur during chronic sun exposure. This is evidenced by the histological improvement seen in most clinical trials of this class of drug. However, a few of these trials have reported mild to moderate cutaneous irritation that could perhaps be reduced by a more gradual institution of treatment and/or by the use of an effective sunscreen in conjunction with tazarotene.
Tazorac is also useful in reducing the signs of ageing and photo-damage such as coarse wrinkles, mottled hyper-pigmentation, acanthosis, irregular depigmentation, telangiectasias and roughness. It is especially useful when used in combination with a sunscreen (SPF >15) for maximum benefit.
The active ingredient in tazarotene is a synthetic derivative of vitamin A. It is a non-comedogenic, and therefore does not block pores or cause oily skin. It is thought to work by blocking certain enzymes in the skin that produce the oils that lead to skin aging and photo-damage, and by increasing collagen production. It is also believed to inhibit oxidation of cholesterol and other fats that may help reduce fatty deposits on the skin.
Retinoids are medications that act as exfoliants, thereby smoothing the skin and preventing fine lines and wrinkles. They are also useful in removing excess sebum and decreasing the size of enlarged pores. They are also used to treat inflammatory conditions such as acne and psoriasis, and to unclog blocked pores in patients with oily skin.
Topical tazarotene is also sometimes used to treat a skin condition called keratosis pilaris, which causes small bumps on the surface of the skin. Retinoids can also be used in combination with other skin care and sunlight avoidance programs to reduce the appearance of wrinkling and discoloration in patients who have been treated with other medications, such as accutane.
Talk to your dermatologist before you start using tazarotene. You should tell them if you have any other skin diseases or conditions, such as eczema. You should also inform your doctor if you have or have ever had a history of cancer. Do not apply tazarotene to broken or bleeding skin, and do not use it to treat severe sunburn.
